Artist's Statement

My goal in painting on location through observation is honestly in seeing. My medium is my body, my five senses as they respond in oil paint through the limitations of canvas and brush. Within the painting process I have always enjoyed a feeling of participation and intimacy with my subject, whether it be still life or portrait, the mountains of New Mexico, the open landscape of Minnesota or the dusty desert lands of India. It is my hope that through this intimacy with painting I will come to understand what it is to be fully and naturally human. On one level, the paintings are a record of my experiences, like journal entries. On another level, with painting at its possible best, they are imprints of my consciousness as it awakens more and more to the divine spark of love revealed in the world of forms.
