Connie O'Mara began her jewelry career as a bench jeweler at a retail store doing basic jewelry repair. After working on other people's jewelry for eight years, Connie decided she wanted to concentrate on her own line and opened a studio at her home.
Her designs are based around the stones she uses in each piece. During her years in retail, she worked with precious stones like rubies, emeralds, sapphires and diamonds, but she also discovered jaspers, marbles, agates and other similar stones. In doing so, Connie fell in love with the less precious but more natural stones which have become the focus of her work.
"They seem to talk to me, so I attend as many rock and mineral shows as I can find," said Connie. She doesn't limit herself to shows, but also loves to find stones in nature, walking along creeks and lake shorelines to find unique stones to inspire her original designs.
Connie is a native of Northwest Arkansas, growing up in Springdale and graduating from Springdale High in 1975. She attended the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville and graduated in December 1979 with a B.S.E. in Art Education.
